An exhibition that celebrates Tessa Sidey’s contribution to the museum and art gallery. It displays a selection of works from her bequest, additional prints kindly donated by her executors, and some of the many significant acquisitions she a made for BM&AG in her role as curator of prints and drawings. Sidey, curator of prints and drawings at BM&AG for nearly 30 years, died on New Year’s day after a long illness. On her death, she generously bequeathed to the Museum 33 20th-century prints, drawings and studio ceramics from her private collection. The prints and drawings include works by Josef Albers, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Patrick Caulfield, Richard Long, Eduardo Paolozzi, Gilbert Spencer and Julian Trevelyan, while the ceramics consist of a group of five pieces by Svend Bayer, two slipware bowls by Sydney Tustin, and single pots by David Leach, Marianne de Trey and Clive Bowen. The bequest reflects her own tastes and areas of specialism as well as being carefully selected by her to complement BM&AG’s existing holdings.
